CVU calls parliamentary coalition to approve one of draft laws on local elections

Today four draft laws on local elections are registered in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. All of them were submitted by members of coalition factions.

Thus, it is highly probable that none draft law will get enough votes. It can result that local elections will be held in correspondence with old legislation and the Coalition Agreement will be ignored once again.

To prevent this, CVU calls the coalition of parliamentary factions “European Ukraine” to choose one draft law on local elections, which will be put to a vote at the meeting of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. According to previous working experience of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, important decisions are taken only when they are preliminarily agreed and approved within the coalition.

The new Law of Ukraine on Local Elections shouldn't become an exception and it can't be defeated as the quality of local governments and effectiveness of decentralization in Ukraine directly depend on local elections October 25, 2015 .
